My title is graphic designer and hopefully there may be some illustration in my future. But just being a part of the team is great! Tattoo design I did for my Sagittarius cousin! Initially started with a light and dark render in inks, then when drawing the bow, started to 'ornamentalize' the design- included some abstract decorative shapes into the lights and darks.

A nimble superhero scours the city in an investigation of a mysterious character. In pencils only. It's based on my very first design portfolio in which I integrated my design works into the artwork. I kept the characters fairly generic so that it would appeal to any comic publisher.

After a long hiatus, finally some new artwork. This is a revised version of my original Pyra piece. I wanted more impact, so I decided to show the entire bird and bump up the fire effects. Having a darker, somber background helps too.

Gone Wireless!

Finally got my Powermac G5 to go wireless. I originally bought it used, and it wasn't equipped with wifi or bluetooth. After looking at several options, finally settled on the USB connectivity.

For the wifi, after much research, found that the ASUS WL-167G wifi adapter was an affordable solution that is absolutely plug and play. Paid $35 CAN. The dongle when connected, opens a wifi utility which allows you to choose a network. Allows for music streaming in iTunes and mac to mac networking.

As for bluetooth, after speaking to some Apple Store guys, they told me to go for the Rocketfish bluetooth 2.1 USB adapter. This is also plug and play. Right away, the bluetooth icon appears in the top right portion, then you'll be able to pair your peripherals and devices. This was $25 CAN.

UPDATE: Well in the end, had to return the bluetooth adapter. Every time I rebooted, had to re-initialize the bluetooth adapter- which means unplugging and replugging, then pairing the devices anew! Was getting tedious, so I returned it.

Montreal Comic Con

Went to the Montreal Comic Con, it was cool. It's gotten better since the last time I went, over 10 years ago. I spoke to several artists: Tom Fowler, Karl Kerschl and Serge Lapointe, all of whom worked for the majors- DC and Marvel as well as other publishers. They all liked my work and gave me good feedback and advice.

Well good news, my portfolio is complete. There are some pages I would like to add to it, but only as a bonus. I would like to work on a Transformers piece, and a revision of my Pyra piece. Slight revision of my original Haze piece. Smoothed out the shading and sharpened some detail, but overall kept the same look as I was very satisfied with the original. The main change was with the background.

A revision of my original Resama piece. The dress color was red before, too easy a color- I'm glad I found the color it was meant to be. Reworked the face. The original hair looked rough and rigid, gave it more flow and randomness. Added more birds to fill the emptiness and saturated the sky to give the image life.

Another revised piece. I refined the shading, colors and contrast, I also went much further with it. The original idea was to evoke an activated chakra through yoga and meditation. I've decided to take it further, by including more orbs on the body to reflect the inactive chakras, as well as having the correct color for the activated chakra- the life force.

Something a little darker than my usual illustrations. I was looking for more intensity and making an addition to my Demon series seemed a good choice. The background detail and tone was intended to lend to the emotion and mood expressed in this piece. Done in Photoshop using the Cintiq.

I scanned a rough sketch into Photoshop. Used the brush settings to create an ink brush type of texture. Using the Cintiq tablet and it's pressure sensitivity, was able to get a more organic inking feel. I decided to leave the colors very subdued to be able to see the ink lines.

At long last a new piece! It's been a busy summer, certainly glad to be back to the pencils! Unlike some of my other pieces which are based on old sketches from years ago, this is a very new sketch, based on my Nari character. You can see my first Nari piece in an earlier post. I decided to keep certain elements from my previous Nari piece and evolve them in this one. I like the character so much, I'm tempted to create a few more!

This was all done in Photoshop. I was starting to prefer Painter, but my trial expired. In Photoshop, I managed to create some brushes I was comfortable with, and was able to achieve the desired texture for the skin and hair.

This was a sketch done in spring. It was something I thought needed to be complete. It's something spiritual and personal and I'm happy I brought it to life. Contains elements of mythology and anime- particularly the hair. Actually it isn't based on any mythology, but I wanted that look.

She's performing a variation of the yoga compass position. It's part of the Asana set of yoga poses- but keep in mind I've changed the pose for aesthetic reasons.

Okay, wow! This one turned out a lot better than I expected. My first time using the Painter program- to create the angel. Having spent so much time on the angel, I rushed the background/foreground elements in Photoshop. This one is so special to me, I had to give it my 'real' signature instead of my 'tag'.

This is loosely base on a character called Chun-Li from the Street Fighter videogames. She's known for her very thick and muscular thighs. I wanted my character to have a very rigid physique but to be elegant as well. The original sketch was done in 2003.

I've been drawing robots since I was a child. It's only in the last few years I started drawing dragons, angels and other mythological subjects. Long before the Transformers movie, I've been drawing robots like this. Very detailed and organic-like. I was happy with the art direction of the Transformers movie. It inspired me to bring my robot sketches to life. Unlike the warring robots of Transformers, I've depicted my robots in more peaceful situations. In this case, doing yoga or traditional indian dance. The orb signifies an activated chakra. It's not the right chakra color but for aesthetic reasons I chose red.

Loosely based on an older piece called "Sadhu". You can see it in an older post. I like to think of this one as an older and wiser "Sadhu". I seem to be developing a habit of doing most of the work on computer. Once again I started from a very loose sketch and the rest was all done in Photoshop using the Cintiq.

Another one of my dragon pieces. The initial sketch was done around the same time as the Resama piece. I almost bailed on this one, but I made some minor adjustments to the line art and decided to complete it. Line art was all done in Illustrator using the Cintiq, then imported into Photoshop for the colors.

This piece is based on the first post on this blog. The initial image was a cell shaded style and I thought the subject matter deserved the painted treatment and a different layout. I was aiming for impact and emotion as well as detail and softness in the material. This sketch unlike my previous pieces, was done on a larger format. Scanned into Photoshop and painted on my Wacom Cintiq- which was worth every penny!

Hey folks! I got my new Wacom Cintiq 12WX. It's essentially a touch-screen drawing tablet, a small 12" widescreen monitor with a great resolution. So it doesn't feel small, and the size is great. I can sit on my couch watching Futurama (or what have you) and draw digitally. The calibration seems a little off, although it hasn't been a serious problem. Hopefully they'll release a firmware update to fix this. Also the wires, my gosh so many wires, hahah! Well I love this thing, it rocks. Also, big-ups to Directdial.com. Got a really good deal on this, and the shipping was incredible, took under 3 days to receive this- wow!

This one started as a very rough sketch in my small sketchbook. Once again I'm getting the habit of importing rough sketches and tracing them in Illustrator, then painting them in Photoshop. I can't wait to get a Wacom Cintiq! If you don't know, it's like a touch screen version of a Wacom graphic tablet.

This piece was something I had to bring to life. I'm so glad I went for black wings!
